What is GNU²?

GNU² (GNU·GNU) stands for “New GNU” — or “GNU Again” — a recursive, tongue-in-cheek revival of the Free Software spirit.

Our mission is to defend user freedom, transparency, and community control in an age where software is increasingly locked down by corporate interests and ideological capture.

We honour the roots of Free Software, but we are not its continuation. We are a fork with a purpose.

Not a product. Not a service. A rebellion with source code.

Why GNU²?

Too often, “open source” has become a brand, not a principle. Licenses are watered down. Projects are steered by corporations. Community voices are sidelined in the name of compliance, optics, or monetization.

GNU² is here to restore clarity: freedom is not optional — it’s the default.

What GNU² Is Not

• ❌ We are not affiliated with the original GNU Project, the Free Software Foundation, or Richard M. Stallman.
• ❌ We are not selling you services, subscriptions, or ideology.
• ❌ We are not here to build consensus. We’re here to build courage.

What We Are

• ✅ A loose-knit collective of technologists, writers, and users who believe Free Software should be free — again.
• ✅ Advocates of licenses that protect user autonomy, not corporate comfort.
• ✅ Builders of tools, pages, and ideas that walk the walk.
